Netflix is expanding its content lineup with two highly anticipated original series—Super Subbu (Telugu) and Akka (Hindi). These shows promise fresh storytelling, unique themes, and engaging performances.
Super Subbu: Netflix’s First Telugu Original
Netflix’s first-ever Telugu original series, Super Subbu, is set to deliver a mix of humor and drama. Starring Sundeep Kishan, Brahmanandam, and Mithila Palkar, the show is directed by Mallik Ram, known for Tillu Square.
The story follows Subbu, an unlucky young man who finds himself in a tricky situation. Expecting to work in a school’s computer department, he is instead assigned to teach adult sex education—a subject he knows nothing about. To make things worse, he must hide his job from his strict father while navigating the challenges of village life.
The show promises plenty of comedic chaos as Subbu struggles with his awkward new role, family pressure, and a secret love story. His journey takes hilarious and unexpected turns as he learns to handle quirky villagers and his own inexperience.
Produced by Rajiv Chilaka and Bharath Laxmipati, Super Subbu features a talented supporting cast, including Murli Sharma, Maanasaa Choudhary, Sampoornesh Babu, and Hyper Aadi. The script, written by Mallik Ram and Ramesh Eligeti, brings a fresh take on comedy and social themes.
Netflix India shared their excitement, calling Super Subbu an entertaining and unconventional series. The first teaser introduces Subbu as “super awkward, super unlucky, and super fun,” hinting at a laughter-filled ride.
Akka: A Gritty Hindi Revenge Thriller
Netflix’s other big announcement, Akka, is a Hindi-language web series featuring Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte in powerful lead roles. Set in the 1980s in Pernuru, South India, the series revolves around gangster queens who rule the region with an iron fist.
Keerthy Suresh plays the formidable Akka, the leader of an all-female gang involved in the gold trade. However, their empire faces a deadly challenge when an outsider, played by Radhika Apte, arrives with plans to destroy their reign.
The teaser, released at Netflix’s grand event Next on Netflix, showcases intense action and high-stakes drama. The visuals highlight Akka’s gang, clad in traditional outfits, taking up arms against those who threaten their power. Meanwhile, Radhika’s character is seen strategizing her attack, hinting at a fierce battle between the two women.
Directed by Dharmaraj Shetty and produced by Yash Raj Films’ Aditya Chopra, along with Yogendra Mogre and Akshaye Widhani, Akka promises an edge-of-the-seat revenge thriller. Veteran actress Tanvi Azmi plays a key role, adding more depth to the powerful narrative.
Netflix’s Expanding Reach in Indian Originals
With Super Subbu offering a comedic escape in Telugu and Akka delivering gritty action in Hindi, Netflix is expanding its footprint in India’s regional entertainment space. The platform is investing in diverse storytelling that caters to all kinds of audiences.
